Every Phase, Defined Before It Starts
Phase 0
Discovery
Before any formal engagement begins, we work with you to pressure-test the idea itself. Our engineers evaluate feasibility, flag the unknowns that could derail a project later, and identify exactly what information is needed to move into formal requirements. This step exists so you don't commit budget to a full engagement before you know it's actually ready for one.
*Discovery is a paid engagement based on opportunity readiness*
Phase 1
Define
We start by understanding the problem, not the product. Our engineers work alongside your team to identify all stakeholders and user roles, capture constraints, and translate real-world needs into a documented set of Product Scope Requirements. Those requirements become the acceptance criteria for the entire engagement, so every decision that follows is grounded in what you actually need, not assumptions made along the way.
Phase 2
Conceptualize
With requirements locked, we explore how to actually solve the challenge. Our team develops and evaluates multiple design directions, running benchtop tests on any technology that carries real technical risk. Nothing moves to full-scale design until every identified risk has an agreed-upon mitigation and a concept has been formally approved.
Phase 3
Develop
This is where the detailed engineering happens. Our team develops complete mechanical, electrical, and software designs, including CAD models, schematics, and a full bill of materials. Before the design is locked, we walk through every single requirement in a formal review to confirm it's been addressed and can be verified later.
Phase 4
Build
With a complete, reviewed design in hand, we move into prototype manufacturing. Subsystems are built with continuous engineering oversight, and any necessary changes are documented and folded back into the design package rather than left untracked. Functional testing at the end of this phase confirms the prototype is ready for formal validation.
Phase 5
Test
Every requirement gets tested, not assumed. We perform formal verification and validation against each Product Scope Requirement using the acceptance criteria established in Phase 1, and produce a documented test record demonstrating that each was met. You leave this phase with a validated product and a paper trail showing exactly how it got there.
Deliverables by Phase
Deliverables Designed to Protect Your Outcome
Every phase ends with a checkpoint, not a guess. Requirements are locked before design starts, risks are mitigated before they reach the build phase, and every change is documented rather than left untracked. That's what keeps scope under control, budgets predictable, and your project on track from first requirement to final delivery.
Why the Process Matters
Designed to Deliver With Confidence
A phased process means fewer surprises and more control. You always know what's been decided, what it cost, and why, with a documented trail connecting your original requirements to the finished product. The result is a project you can trust, not just one you hope turns out right.
A Traceable Baseline for Every Decision
Every requirement is documented and signed before design begins, and every downstream decision, design element, and test traces back to it. Nothing gets built or verified against assumptions.
Risk Retired Before it Affects Timeline
Technical unknowns are identified and mitigated early, with mitigations documented and agreed upon before committing to full-scale design. Risk gets addressed on the bench, not discovered mid-build.
Budget and Schedule You Can Actually Track
Each phase is scoped as its own defined piece of work, so you can see how budget and timeline are tracking against the plan at every stage, not just when the final invoice arrives.
Verified Outcomes, Not Assumed Ones
Every requirement is formally tested against predefined acceptance criteria, with a documented test record proving each one was met.
